El Obied, G. H., Ahmed, F. A. and Bashir, N. H.H.

Abstract

A study which involved eighty one Sudanese desert sheep and four types of feeds, autumn pasture (AP), sorghum crop residues (SCR), casual grazing (CG) and cotton crop residues (CCR) was conducted in the Rahad Agricultural Corporation in season 1997/1998. The study aims to detect the residue of insecticides resulted from cotton spraying in different animal fodder used in the area and milk produced from ewes grazed on these fodders. The study indicated that both pyrethroid and organophosphorus insecticides were not detected in both feed and milk samples, while endosulfan (The only organochlorine used) was detected in some samples of feed and milk. The higher concentration in both feed and milk was in week 1 of CCR grazing period. However, the higher level of endosulfan detected in milk was far below the tolerance level.
