Tissue culture technique for propagation of banana cv. Albeely by shoot tip

Mohmed Ahmed Ali and George louis Tokporo

Abstract

A technique for micropropagation of banana cv. Albeely by shoot tip culture was established in 2003. The frequency of shoot morphogenesis on shoot tip cultures initiated from green house grown plants was better than that from field grown plants. Length of shoot tips (4 and 8 cm) had no effect on shoot elongation on the banana cv. Albeely. The best number of shoots per explant was induced on benzylaminopurine at 4 mg/l. Addition of 0.5 mg/l Indole acetic acid improved the in vitro propagation of banana shoot tip explants of the banana cv. Albeely. Addenine sulfate did not increase the number of shoots regenerated per explant of banana. Coconut water at 10 mg/l improved the morphogenesis of shoots from shoot tip explants of the banana cv. Albeely.
