Evaluation, limitations and management Proposals for some catena soils in North Kordofan State, Sudan

M.A.M. Idris1

Abstract

Abstract
The succession of soils down a slope is referred to as "soil catena". The catena soils in this study belong to the Entisols and Inceptisols soil orders of the U.S. Soil Taxonomy. They are locally known as" Qoz" and" Gardud" soils respectively.
Moisture and nutrients deficiencies, water and wind erosion hazards are the major constraints of' soils. The gardud soils, however, suffer from soil compaction, crust formation and impermeability. These constraints, no doubt, limit the suitability of these soils for agricultural production.
Use of crop residues, proper tillage, improved moisture conservation techniques or practices and establishment of windbreaks were proposed for management of these soils
