Response of cucumber (Cucumis sativus L) to nitrogen fertigation under plastic house conditions

Osman A. Sidahmed ., M.S. Al Rawahi and F.S. Al Raisy

Abstract:

Response of cucumber to different levels and sources of nitrogen fertigation were studied for two seasons under both single and double layer plastic houses with different light intensities. Results of the two seasons revealed the positive effect of all nitrogen treatments, over the control, regarding in dry matter, fresh biomass, leaf area, number of fruits and marketable yield. Moreover, the results reflected the efficiency of urea as a nitrogen source in producing better vegetative growth and higher yield than Kristalon under the single layer plastic house. Cucumber growth and productivity were higher under the conditions of the single layer plastic house with high light intensity confirming the importance of adaquate light for vegetative and reproductive phases of the crop. `
