Thermal time: Concept and application in the field of microclimatology of crops

H.A Mohamed1 , O.E. Mohamed2 and T.E Mohamed2

Abstract:

Thermal time concept was used to determine the cardinal temperatures, the rates of germination and thermal time requirements of germination of sesame, Tabar and Siha. The base, optimum and maximum temperatures for sesame were 12,39 and 44.5°C. For both Tabar and Siha they were 12,37 and 46°C respectively. Minimum germination rates for sesame, Tabar and Siha were 1.2, 1.9 and 2.4 and the corresponding thermal time requirements to 50% germination were 28.0, 12.4 and 10.5 degree-days.
