Abstract:

The impact of stickiness. on marketing Sudanese cotton is well understood. The major causative agent of cotton lint stickiness is the honey dew excreted by the insects whitefly and aphid. The sugars component of this honey dew were found to be the reducing sugars glucose and fructose and the non-reducing sugar sucrose and melezitose. The concentration of the reducing sugars did not seem to change with increasing stickiness grades. A chemical method for stickiness grading based on the determination of total soluble sugars was developed and later modified for commercial application. The chemicals used are not expensive and the equipments are not complicated. The test is easy to run and can be perfect further.
