Abstract:

The recession-forecast equation for the Blue Nile developed by Hamad (1993) was slightly modified and used in the simulation program described in part 1. The Excel's Visual Basic Applications (VBA) was used to store and calculate the forecasted recession inflows of the Blue Nile from the second period of November to the last period of March. The same scenarios tested in part 1 were used. Results indicated that the modified recession-forecast equation produces less standard error of estimate when compared with the previous one. The program can successfully incorporate the recession-forecast equation for real-time planning together with the crop water requirement calculation of the different agricultural schemes. It provides a flexible and easy-to-use tool in the decision-support process of determining wheat area in the Gezira scheme. It also provides a quick and flexible tool to test different scenarios regarding the winter crop areas of the Gezira scheme and avoid serious watershortages at the early stages before the new flood season starts.
