The degradation of common Libyan feeds in the rumen of sheep

Mohamed Elamin Elimam1, Mahmoud  Mohamed EI Bergatti2 and Mohamed Ardawa Farkash2

Abstract:

Artificial fibre bags were used to determine the degradation characteristics of common Libyan feeds in the rumen of Barbary rams. The crude protein in different hays and grasses was lower than values reported in the literature and higher than in straws. The rumen degradation characteristics of concentrates were relatively higher than roughages. The results provided information for the application of new concepts of protein nutrition in ruminants and suggested using different methods to improve the nutritive value of roughages or feeding them at higher feeding levels to allow the animals to select the better parts.
