Abstract

Susceptibility of the lady bird Cheilomenes propinqua vicina (Mulsant) to 13 commonly used insecticides in Sudan, representing different chemical groups, was studied under laboratory conditions in the Gezira Research Station during 1996/ 1997 winter season, adopting filter paper method. The results obtained showed that the descending order of toxicity of this predator in terms of LD50 as follows: fenpropathrin (Danitol®) > chlorpyrifos (Dursban®) > fenpropathrin – fnitrothion (Danitol – S®) > fenitrothion (Sumithion®) > methomyl (Lannate®) > thiometon (Ekatin®) > chlorpyrifos – methyl (Reldan®) > endosulfan (Endosulfan®) > oxydemeton–methyl (Metasystox–R®) > pirimicarb (Pirimor®) > amitraz (Mitac®) > Pyriproxyfen (Admiral®) > Neem Seed Kernel Powder Suspension (NSKPS). The LD50 values range is from 19.9 ppm (for fenpropathrin) to 17981.7 ppm (for Admiral®) whereas NSKPS reflected an LD50 of 294623.1 ppm. The ascending order of the slopes of the Ld-p lines was Danitol® < Endosulfan® < Reldan® < NSKPS < Danitol–S® < Metasystox–R®< Admiral® < Sumithion® < Lannate® Ekatin® < Dursban® < Pirimor® < Mitac®. The obtained results reflected the differential toxicity (selectivity) of the tested insecticides to this predator.
