Magnitude of damage to sugarcane seedlings caused by the white grub Schizonycha sp. (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) Elnour, E.A., Hassan, A.E., Khafagi, R.M., and Mohammed, Y.F. Abstract Two experiments were conducted, in a green house, at Kenana Sugar Company (KSC) experimental farm to determine the agnitude of losses to sugarcane seedling as a result of the white grubs damage. Each experiment was composed of 16 pots, 20 litres capacity, to represent four, levels of infestations of 3rd larval instar of the white grub Schizonycha sp. viz. 0, 8, 16 and 32 larvae per pot that supporting 6 weeks old sugarcane seedlings. The experiment was accomplished 8 weeks later and it reflected that the higher the number of the larvae per pot the lower the dry weight of shoots and roots (P< 0.05). As a result of the infestation the shoots and roots dry weight fell with a polynomial regression curve as the number of insects per pot increased from 8 to 32.
