Response of tomato to “Elnada Elakhader” foliar fertilizer under Gezira Conditions, Sudan

 Abstract

Response of tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. cv. Peto 86) to “Elnada Elakhader”, a complete micronutrients foliar fertilizer formulation, was evaluated in field experiments on El Remeitab soil series of the Gezira Vertisols, during the 2005/06 and 2006/07 winter season. Three spraying ratios (low, medium and high) of Elnada Elakhader were compared to similar ratios of the recommended complete foliar fertilizer (ADB) in RCBD with four replications. Results indicated that Elnada Elakhader applied at the medium spray ratio produced the highest tomato yield. However, this yield was not significantly better than that obtained by the recommended ratio of ADB. The uptake of the macronutrients (NK) and the micronutrients (Zn, Cu, and Fe) was enhanced by the application of Elnada Elakhader in a similar pattern to that of ADB. The compound micronutrient “Elnada Elakhader” at the medium spray ratio of 0.375:100, equivalents to 75 ml product per the conventional 20-liters knapsack sprayer, was recommended for tomato (cv. Peto 86) foliar fertilization in the Sudan Gezira.
