           Abstract

Two local and seven introduced sweet orange varieties budded on sour orange rootstocks were subjected to a comparative study for more than 20 years. The evaluation results indicated that the introduced varieties (Frost Valencia and Hamlin) were vigorous and had a greater canopy than the local ones (Sinnari and Jaffa). Frost Valencia was the most productive variety followed by Hamlin, while the local selection variety was the least productive one. The local selection and Sinnari were also early and highly infested with twig die-back, gummosis and gummy bark disease. Based on quality attributes, productivity and disease situation, Frost Valencia, Hamlin and Olinda were found to be leading varieties at Jabel Marra.
