Chemical control of the Acacia bagworm Auchmophila kordofensis R. (Lepidoptera: Psychidae) in North Kordofan State, Sudan
Bashir, Y.G.A., Abdalla, T.E. Abstract
This study was carried out in the seasons 2004/05 and 2005/06 to evaluate the effect of D-C-Tron Plus (petroleum spray oil), the biopesticide Tracer (spinosad) 240 SC and Sumigold 20% EC (esfenvalerate) against larval population of the Acacia bagworm Auchmophila kordofensis, on Acacia nubica trees. Larval populations of the bagworm in both seasons were significantly reduced compared with the untreated control. A single spray with spinosad 240 SC at 0.188% and esfenvalerate 20% EC at 0.56% were found enough to suppress larval populations to the zero level in both seasons. The petroleum spray oil was applied twice in both seasons. The increase in twig length of the treated acacia trees can be correlated with the reduction in bagworm larval populations followed application of all rates of petroleum oil, spinosad and esfenfalerate.
