Abstract:
The study was conducted for three seasons (1990 91, 91/92 and 92/93) at
New Halfa sugar factory orchard, (150 19΄, N 380 41΄ E). The experiment
tested 144 guava trees 12 years old and of white fruit type. The objective
was to study the effect of different nitrogen rates on the vegetative
growth, fruit quality and yield of guava at New Halfa. Nitrogen in the form
of urea was applied at two equal doses; the first in October and the second
dose in June. Throughout the experimental period, nitrogen rates resulted in
a significant increase in tree height, trunk circumference, fruit weight,
fruit size, fruit circumference, total soluble solids and leaf –nitrogen
content than the control. The optimum rate of nitrogen fertilizer (per tree
per year) for guava at New Halfa is 600 g in the form of urea to be applied
into two doses, in October and June, respectively.
