Rainfal in the Sudan: trend and agricultural implications

H. A. Mohamed

Abstract:

Analysis of rainfall records from twelve meteorological stations in the Sudan located between latitudes 11° and 20° N shows that there has been a clear decrease in the annual rainfall over the last 30 to 40 years. The decrease is due mainly to a drop in August rainfall followed by that in September and July. Expressed as a percentage of the whole period mean, the change in annual rainfall has been least in the South. Adverse effects on agricultural production may therefore be expected to be most pronounced in the North.
