Abstract:

A study was carried out in the Department of Animal Science, at the University of Gezira, to investigate the prevalence of helminthes in free-range indigenous and commercially reared exotic chicken in different seasons. A total of 120 growers and adults chickens (60 birds each) obtained from adjacent farms and the local market were used to examine the incidence of helminthic endoparasites in the small intestine and the caeca. The results showed that the local strain had higher seasonal infection rate compared to the exotic and that adult chickens had higher worms count than growers. The interaction effect of season x strain was significant in the small intestine, while age, season and strain x season interaction was not significant in the caeca for worms infestation.
