Development of fine high strength cotton suitable for modern textile industry

Ahmed M. Mustafa and Elfadil A. Babiker

Abstract:

Performance in term of seed cotton and lint yields of seven cotton genotypes (Gossypium hirsutum L.) was evaluated across ten environments in the Sudan during 2003 through 2005. The objectives of the study were to assess their yield performance, stability and fibre quality. The fine-count high-strength cotton variety Abdin, derived from the cross (Barac (67) B×BLCABPD8S-1-90) F1×(Shambat collection 19-95-1× CAHUGARPIH-1-88) F1, surpassed Shambat-B in lint yield and ginning out-turn. It had a substantial increase in fibre strength and count spinning product that makes it as a suitable cotton variety coping with the new spinning and textile industry standards.
ndi were superior for quality in Jebel Marra area.
