Sesame
Research Program:
Sesame
is one of the most important oil crops and has recently become the largest
earner of foreign exchange, ranking second to petrol. It is grown in
an area estimated at 2,880,000 feddans mainly under rain-fed conditions,
producing about 209,500 t. Average productivity is about 73 kg/fed.,
which is extremely low compared to an average productivity of 0.5 t/fed
in Egypt.
This
program seeks to:
a) Increase
productivity
b) Improve
quality through breeding new white varieties
