Agricultural
Engineering Research Program:
Agricultural
engineering plays a crucial role
in the expansion of agricultural areas and improvement in agronomic
practices such as land preparation, planting and harvesting that assist
in higher productivity and lower production costs. Also, use of machinery
and implements aids more efficient utilization of agricultural inputs
and saves time and efforts. In spite of the large agricultural areas
and their continual expansion in the country, mechanization has not
been adequately utilized to solve the problems of sugar cane, sesame,
cotton and groundnuts harvesting, although some success has been achieved
in some crops such as sorghum production. The
program intends to improve and modify agricultural machinery and equipment
to suit Sudanese conditions related to the production of various crops
and to design prototypes and agricultural implements, as well as raising
the efficiency of irrigation systems.
